SLAAMB continues to provide the childcare funds to the First Nations communities of:
• Bearskin Lake First Nation $70,227.00 provides 26 childcare spaces.
• Kasabonika Lake First Nation $29,569.00 provides 16 childcare spaces.
• Wunnumin Lake First Nation $214,754.00 provides 24 childcare spaces.
• Eagle Lake First Nation $11,089.00 provides 13 childcare spaces.
The program is consistent with the vision of the Sioux Lookout Chiefs that “the best approach to childcare and early childhood development is to have an integrated sustainable model designed, developed and delivered by First Nations communities that are grounded in First Nations values, which are culturally and spiritually appropriate with an emphasis on the local Native Language to ensure the best possible future for our children.
